‘The Walking Dead’ Season 3 second-half premiere notches highest rating in history of AMC show

"The Walking Dead" is redefining what it means to be a Deadhead.

AMC's favorite zombie show drew 12.3 million viewers Sunday night at 9 for the premiere of the second half of its third season.
That's the highest viewership in show history. The previous mark was 10.9 million viewers for its season three premiere in October.
Even better for AMC, 7.7 million of those viewers were between 18 and 49, the group that advertisers most want to reach.

That's the highest 18-49 audience for a series episode in basic cable history.
AMC noted that it also vaults "The Walking Dead" ahead of broadcast hits like "Modern Family," "The Big Bang Theory" and "NCIS" this season among 18-49s.
"Walking Dead" also added another 4.3 million viewers with three encore showings later Sunday night.
The episode had the survivors suffering serious problems among themselves, even beyond the ongoing zombie issue.
