Sea Park Elementary students feasted on green eggs and ham this week in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Saturday and Read Across America, a national event that promotes literacy.
Dyed green eggs — 45 dozen of them — and a 15- pound ham were prepared for students, thanks to the Satellite Beach school’s parent-teacher organization.
“The kids just love it,” said Samantha McGill, Sea Park’s media specialist. “We do it all week long.”
Elementary schools across Brevard celebrated the event. Many inviting guest speakers — such as Rob Rains, president of United Way Brevard — to read to students or share their favorite children’s book.
At Coquina Elementary in Titusville, students decorated their classroom doors — many reflecting characters from popular Seuss books.
“It’s exciting,” said Stephanie Weaver, a fourth-grade teacher. “The little ones light up.”
