WWE Royal Rumble 2013: The Good and Bad, Part 2

Now that we have discussed the good parts of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in Part 1, now let's get to the rest of the show, which I believe was an epic fail.

Team Hell No vs. Team Rhodes Scholars

This tag team title match was just a bore. It was short and not thrilling whatsoever. For Team Rhodes Scholars to have such a build to be No.1 contenders for the titles, the payoff was not good. Moreover, there is no reason for them to continue to be involved in the title picture as the top challengers, so it would good for them to split up.

The Royal Rumble Match As A Whole

First, placing the Royal Rumble match before the WWE Championship match is as predictable as it gets. Clearly the night was set up for the Rock to bask in his own glory. There were a few good returns (especially Y2J), as I explained in Part 1. However, it ultimately led to a John Cena win that was totally unnecessary.

Why? Because Cena does not need to win a Royal Rumble—especially a second one—to gain a world-title shot. Honestly, he could have cut a promo the next night on Raw and could have been immediately thrust into either world-title picture. The RR match should have been used to groom superstars such as the Miz, Antonio Cesaro or Wade Barrett. Not to give Cena another trophy in his already-stuffed case.

Rock vs. CM Punk

This match was grossly lackluster. The ring chemistry was barely present (arguably not at all), and the finish was outdated. The lights going off and the Shield attacking was a good idea, but all for naught. Even from the start, the feud did not live up to the potential. It was shown at the PPV that they just didn't mesh. Hopefully we have seen the end of this feud, and seemingly there will be a triple threat match set for WrestleMania.
