The 50-year-old actress, who has long kept her private life as guarded as anyone in Hollywood, came as close as she ever has to outing herself publicly as a lesbian as she accepted the Cecille B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at Sunday night’s Golden Globes.
“I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I've never been able to air in public that I'm a little nervous about,” Foster said, “But maybe not as nervous as my publicist.
Jodie Foster took home an Acedemy Award for Best Actress in her role opposite Anthony Hopkins in the 1991 classic 'Silence of The Lambs.'
"So I'm just going to put it out there, loud and proud. I'm going to need your support on this. I am… single," she said, eliciting much laughter and applause.
But she quickly shifted gears into a more serious tone – one that left acting peers like Anne Hathaway with tears streaming down their cheeks.
